Snowshoers, hikers, cross-country skiers, and sightseers converge at the Old Man’s Cave to admire frozen waterfalls and spectacular ice formations from freezing water droplets on cliffs.

Another popular spot in town is the eye-catching Lake Logan State Park, where you can take advantage of sledding and cross-country skiing trails throughout the park. When the lake begins to freeze, you can enjoy more winter fun through ice fishing or ice skating. Meanwhile, the John Glenn Astronomy Park presents stargazers with an excellent opportunity to marvel at meteor showers on those starry winter nights. For the ideal lodging experience, you can make a reservation at the Whitetail Dream Cabin, surrounded by raw nature with access to luxurious amenities like a hot tub, a stocked pond, and a climate-regulated basketball gym.

About 1/3 of the total area of Brecksville is made up of parkland, which brings the little town to life once the cold season begins. As the headquarters of the only national park in the state, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, this little location turns into a hub for cross-country skiing, winter hiking, snowshoeing, sledding, and snow tubing, thanks to over 100 miles of snow trail to explore.

The Brecksville Nature Center is another excellent site where you can experience winter magic and interact with beautiful wildlife, including feeding curious chickadees throughout the season. Not too far away, you can head to the Brecksville Reservation and explore winter marvels along the Deer Lick Cave Trail. Elsewhere, the over 5,000 acres of woodland in Clear Creek Metro Park present a storybook winter scene when coated in snow. The park also boasts rich biodiversity, with over 2,000 species of flora and fauna.

You can enjoy one of the most fulfilling lodging experiences at the Cantwell Cliffs Cottage, with access to beautiful nature trails in a tranquil location. After exploring the winter delights in Chesterland, you can spend the night at The Lodge At Bass Lake, about a 15-minute drive away in Chadron.

Aptly named after the appealing natural waterfall in the heart of this quiet village, Chagrin Falls sits on the banks of the Chagrin River. The town’s focal point looks especially enchanting in the winter, and tourists usually gather to admire the ice and snow gathering around it and capture the scene on their cameras. But there are more spaces outside the town center to explore, and Riverside Park is a lovely option if you want to go for a lazy stroll or just want to relax and enjoy the storybook scene of snow in the entire park.

More winter time can be spent at the sprawling Holbrook Hollows, which spans almost 130 acres. The park features four trails for snowshoers and cross-country skiers looking to discover the outdoors. Those who can not brave the cold may want to stop by the Chagrin Falls Historical Society and uncover the region’s past by browsing interesting artifacts and old documents.

Alternatively, you can head to Main Street Beach to enjoy phenomenal lake views or capture the dramatic sunset of a clear winter evening. There are also a few seabirds to watch, or you can opt for an ice fishing session.

Vermilion is famous for its year-round festivals. During the cold season, the Annual Vermilion Ice-A-Fair helps spread winter cheer as locals gather to enjoy family-friendly activities like ice sculpturing. While there are several accommodation options in the town, The Old Vermilion Jailhouse Bed and Breakfast puts you within walking distance of most major points of interest.

Berea is a delightful community, but its natural spaces take the town’s charisma to another level, especially during the winter. A great example is the Rocky River Reservation extension into the town, which creates pockets of waterfalls that look stunning when it snows. This means more outdoor fun for tourists, which you can find plenty of at Coe Lake Park. The scene of the park wrapped in snow and speckles of ice is magical, and there is a nice gazebo where you can relax to soak it all in.

When the nearby Coe Lake freezes over, it offers the perfect surface for ice skating, or you can poke holes into the ice for an ice fishing session. Meanwhile, Wallace Lake offers even better ice fishing opportunities in two designated spots, thanks to a considerable population of rainbow trout and catfish. Finally, one of the best times in Berea is during the Jack Frost Festival, held at Coe Lake Park and featuring fireworks displays, parades, plays, ice sculpturing, good food, and more.

There is no shortage of winter fun in the Buckeye State, and these small towns in Ohio paint a picture of what you can expect when you plan a winter vacation. Whether visiting for the weekend or spending the entire season there, you can prepare for a fun experience with lifetime memories to make.
