The stadium was officially opened in 1997 replacing the Louis Armstrong Stadium as the main venue for the tournament. With a capacity of 16,100, Indian Wells Tennis Garden is the world's third largest tennis stadium and the second biggest outdoor tennis stadium after Arthur Ashe Stadium. The stadium is home to the BNP Paribas Open an event that features both the women's WTA Tour and the men's ATP World Tour. The stadium also hosts the year round junior and adult United States Tennis Association events together with other individually fixed matches. The Indian Wells Tennis Garden was constructed in March 2000.
