Where Is Dubai?
Dubai is the most populous and largest city in the UAE, it is also the capital and largest in the Emirate of Dubai. The United Arab Emirates is a federated state that consists of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, Ras-Al Khaimah and Dubai. The UAE is located on the Persian Gulf in western Asia, it borders Saudi Arabia to the south, Oman the east, Iran to the north and a maritime border with Qatar to the west. Geographically the UAE lies in the Middle East. The country has a population of 9.5 million, but only 1.5 are native Emirati citizens. An absolute monarch rules each of the Emirates; the seven leaders are the members of the Federal Supreme Council that governs the country. The president is elected from among the council members to serve a five-year term with no term limits. However, the ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi holds the de facto presidency of the state, the presidency can, therefore, be defined as a de facto hereditary. Although Dubai is the largest city, Abu Dhabi is the country's capital.
Emirate of Dubai
The Emirate of Dubai is the second largest but most populous of the Emirates. It occupies five percent of the UAE while the emirate of Abu Dhabi occupies 87.6%. The emirate is located off the coast of the Persian Gulf, it borders Oman to the southeast, Sharjah to the northeast, while Abu Dhabi is on the south. Of the emirate’s 2.3 million people, only 17% are native. The capital of the Emirate of Dubai is the city of Dubai. Dubai was an independent territory of its until 1892, when the British declared it a protectorate alongside the other emirates. The emirates remained British colonies until December 1, 1971, when the British-Trucial Sheikhdoms treaty expired. On December 2, 1972, the emirates united and formed the United Arab Emirates.
City of Dubai
The city of Dubai is the biggest in the state and the world's 22nd most expansive city. It is located on the southeast end of the country along the coast of the Persian Gulf. Dubai is a popular tourist destination; it attracts millions of tourists annually, especially those seeking to shop and enjoy the sunshine along the coast. The city is among the most modern globally with excellent infrastructure and transport systems. It is home to the Burj Khalifa, which is the world's tallest building, and the iconic dhow-shaped Burj Al Arab. As the city is located within the Arabian Desert, the vegetation is either desert or introduced vegetation. During the summer, the temperature can rise to 41°C (106°F) and 24°C (75°F) during the winter. The city of Dubai developed as a hub for traders, it linked the west to the Middle East, and to the Far East. The discovery of oil in the Emirate of Dubai propelled the economy of the city to the global city it is today.
