The Constitution of Serbia declares the Serbian Cyrillic as the official script of the nation while the Latin script is described as “script in official use.” According to a survey conducted in the country, 47% of the population of Serbia preferred to use the Latin Serbian script while 36% supported the use of Cyrillic script. 17% had no preference for either of the variations of the Serbian script. Serbian is spoken throughout the country with the exception of a few locations. There are several dialects of Serbian. The Torlakian dialect is spoken by most Serbians in southern Serbia.

Several minority languages are officially recognized in Serbia. These languages are Bosnian, Croatian, Slovak, Rusyn, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Albanian, and Romanian.
