The history of the Bank of America can be traced to the Bank of Italy, which was founded by Amadeo Giannini in San Francisco, California, on October 17, 1904. The bank was later acquired and became the Bank of America through the acquisition of BankAmerica by NationsBank. As a result of the acquisition, the bank became the second-largest bank in the United States, after JPMorgan Chase. As of 2019, the BofA had 205,000 employees, 4600 retail financial centers, and 15,900 automated teller machines (ATMs). Additionally, the bank generated US$91.24 billion in revenues in 2018. The current chair and CEO of the Bank of America is Brian Moynihan.

In each region, the bank has offices for local operations. In Latin America, the Bank of America has corporate offices in Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Brazil. Operations in these offices are supported by a dedicated team based in New York City. Countries served by the BofA in the Asia Pacific region include Taiwan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines, and India. The EMEA region team has offices in 19 countries including Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
