The town was named after The Blowing Rock attraction, the oldest tourist attraction in North Carolina, rising over 3000 feet above Johns River Gorge. Known as the gateway to The Great Smoky Mountains is the peaceful mountain town of Bryson City, located in Swain County. Located within Surry County, Mount Airy is Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Ararat and Yadkin Rivers. Mount Airy is a part of the Piedmont triad metropolitan region, with a population of 10,672.
