7 Ideal Destinations for a 3-Day Weekend in the Adirondacks

Covering over 5,000 square miles, the Adirondack Mountains have become a distinguished identity of eastern Upstate New York. Its unique dome formation makes for perfect skiing slopes, and it became a household name when discussing winter destinations, especially after hosting two Winter Olympic games in Lake Placid. Of course, it is just as beautiful as any other time of the year; the fall foliage alone is enough to make visitors fall in love with it. If you are thinking of spending quality time in this paradise, listed below are some of the top destinations for an extended weekend getaway in the Adirondacks.

Malone

For adventurers planning to go on a weekend skiing trip, Malone is an ideal place to be. It is located in Franklin County, close to the Canadian border near Montreal. Malone is one of the lesser-known ski towns on the foothills of the Adirondacks, so it's relatively less crowded than popular ski resorts in the region. Titus Mountain Family Ski Center is a casual ski area with day and night skiing and a tubing hill. If you plan to go here, they offer a sweet ski-and-stay deal in partnership with Holiday Inn Express & Suites Malone.

In the Italianate-inspired downtown, you'll find a diverse selection of shops and joints like Hosler's Family Restaurant and Donovan's Steak & Ale. After a day of skiing, you might also want to warm up and enjoy a fresh brew from Cafe Nouveau. Meanwhile, Malone Golf Club, offering two courses with over 30 championship holes, is perfect for weekenders looking to book some tee time.

Malone Inn, offering fully furnished suites, and Red Roof, a budget hotel that is pet-friendly so you can bring your pups with you, are some of the accommodations available to you.

Plattsburgh

As a county seat located by the shores of Lake Champlain, Plattsburgh is one of the most energetic towns with a laid-back vibe in the Adirondacks. Travelers can enjoy a peaceful stroll by the bay, either at the Plattsburgh Boat Basin near the USS Lake Champlain Memorial or the Sailors Point Park, or you can just spend a quiet day at the city beach.

Folks who love history can discover the town's colorful past at the War of 1812 Museum. There, you'll learn about Plattsburgh's invasion, which is, arguably, one of the biggest invasions in US history. When you cannot get enough of history, more intriguing artifacts are on display at the Clinton County Historical Museum.

Fancy waking up to nice views of the water? Secure your lodging at Golden Gate. They offer modest rooms and even have private beach privileges. For those traveling in a camper or an RV, you can book a spot in advance at the Plattsburgh RV Park.
