Named after the Olympic Gold Medalist, Jim Thorpe is a town filled to the brim with rich history. It has a mixture of European town aesthetics while offering thrilling activities for those interested in mountain sports and more.

Jim Thorpe was founded in 1818 and was first known as Mauch Chunk. The Victorian-like mansions within the town used to house millionaires but are now home to shops, restaurants, and museums that tourists are able to pop into and explore. Or, head over to the many cultural attractions such as Old Jail Museum or Studio YNW to catch a glimpse of just how vibrant the art scene and the culture are in this small town.

As mentioned before, there are so many adventures to partake in, especially for sports lovers. Biking is a huge staple in this town, and visitors can try downhill mountain biking or go for something a little tamer with the D&L biking trail. If you are a lover of diverse cultural history, make sure to check out the small, cozy town of Milford. The streets are filled with antiques that all offer their own diverse style, and it is no surprise that the arts — film festivals, art programs, and dance companies — are a lively part of this town's identity.

Their intricate past is nestled within the streets as visitors are able to check out sites such as The Columns Museum or the Grey Towers National Historic Site, a French-styled home built in 1886. Here, you'll find history from more than 200 years ago, and it certainly will seem as if you're stepping into the past with its rustic yet unique architecture.

More of an outdoors person? Not to worry — Milford also has a wide array of natural attractions so that tourists are never quite bored. The Raymondskill Falls, Pennsylvania's tallest waterfall, is a sea of green accompanied by grey rocks and the sound of flowing water. During the summer, visitors can soak in the calming weather and take a hike along the road. Or, one can head over to the Delaware River, where swimming and boating are common activities.

It may not sound like a small town, but the Delaware Water Gap is a must-visit when traveling through the Poconos area. This village lies along the Appalachian Trail, so if you're someone who enjoys the solace of nature and forests, then this place is a paradise. The Church of the Mountain Hiker Hostel is the perfect accommodation to rest your weary feet after a day of exploring and offers you the quiet peace of the woods — or The Deerhead Inn which provides lodging and amazing dining options.

There are many trails along this area, so those of any hiking ability are welcome to come explore! If looking for an easier hike, make sure to check out Dingmans Fall boardwalk trail, which is actually wheelchair-accessible. More strenuous hikes, such as the Mount Tammany Red Dot Trail, will offer more of a challenge for those wanting to test their skills.

Each year in September, Delaware Water Gap also hosts a Celebration of the Arts Festival, where artists from all over the world get to showcase their world. From art sculptors to jazz musicians to oil painters, it is a joyous time to be around all art forms and have them commemorated in such a special and memorable way.
