Batavia is a popular weekend getaway from Chicago which features beautiful nature along the Fox River banks. The charming beach town of Beach Park is tucked in between Wisconsin and Waukegan in the north Chicago area. Beach Park is a whimsically shaped community with parks and nature preserves. The town’s name is actually derived from an old railroad station. During the 1920s, the train conductor would call out "Beach Park" instead of "Beach Station" on this trail line between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Waukegan

This small town is the envy of the North Shore for having it all, including water access for the best summer vacation. Waukegan Downtown is a real cultural hub, with galleries and venues in the Arts & Entertainment District. Feast your eyes on some modern and classic art, or buy a piece for sale to bring home one-of-a-kind decor. Join in the Waukegan Wine Stroll, an annual premiere event downtown with beverage tastings and food pairings. Catch a live theater or dance performance and choose another excellent restaurant serving full bar menus during the evening.

Waukegan Municipal Beach is a 400-acre lakefront and is open daily throughout the year. There is also a 1,000-slip marina for recreational fishing and watching competitive boat races. Stop at the Dockside area for ice cream and brats, or bring a picnic to the beach–just a short walk or bike ride from downtown. Relax by the waters or partake in swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, kiteboarding, sand soccer, volleyball, and more. The Stiner Pavilion hosts the Waukegan Band on Tuesday nights, as well as a lineup of summertime concerts and festivals
