Only a 30-minute drive north of Detroit, around 13,000 people call the peaceful town of Rochester home. It is home to the state's first "Rail-to-Trail" path, where old railroad tracks are transformed into multi-use walkways. The Paint Creek Trail is a beautiful trip through peaceful environments, winding through Rochester and several other communities. Once winter hits, the lights come out in Rochester. The Big, Bright Light Show, one of Rochester's most famous winter attractions, covers the downtown in more than one million points of glimmering lights, creating a stunning atmosphere. While many farmers' markets close during the winter, Rochester's market stays open, offering seasonal produce, artisanal foods, and crafts.

The Fire & Ice Festival comes in January with ice sculptures that twinkle in daylight and dazzle under fireworks at night.
