Thanks to its temperate climate, Dahlonega is able to host events throughout the entire year. On the first Friday of every month, the town hosts its Music in the Park series at Hancock Park. This free event showcases the talents of local musicians, with attendees often bringing picnic dinners to enjoy with family and friends while listening to the performance. The Bear On The Square Mountain Festival is another event that highlights the region’s musical talent, taking place over two days in April and filling the Dahlonega public square with old-time and bluegrass tunes. In addition to listening to music, attendees can appreciate an artisan market, music workshops, a gospel jam, and lots of local food.

As a southern town, Dahlonega’s culture includes horseback riding and rodeos. Each year, R-Ranch hosts the R-Ranch Rodeo, a two-day event in the mountains that features barrel racing, bareback bronc, team roping, and bull riding. The event also hosts live music performances by local artists and a memorable half-time show.

The Literary & Science Festival, taking place in March, is another significant cultural festival, which features regional authors discussing their books and holding panels. This year, Joshilyn Jackson, Sharyn McCrumb, and Wanda Morris will be headlining the event. Writers in need of a bit of inspiration can attend the festival’s two free workshops as well, discussing social media management and paths to publication. Last, but certainly not least, to honor its heritage as a gold mining town, Dahlonega hosts the annual Gold Rush Days Festival every October. Attracting over 200,000 visitors, the event features 300 arts and craft artisans, and numerous food vendors, framed by the peaking fall foliage.
