Archaeological evidence on the Korean Peninsula indicates that humans inhabited this land some 500,000 years ago.
Dangun founded Gojoseon, the first Korean kingdom, in 2333 BC. They controlled Korea and parts of Manchuria until their collapse in 108 BC, after a series of conflicts with the Han Dynasty. In the aftermath the Proto-Three Kingdoms emerged.
