Dubai is famous for unique and magnificent architecture including malls, buildings, aquariums, and venues. It is full of some of the unique architecture that reflects modern technology and innovation. Anyone visiting Dubai for the first time will marvel at its skyline that is characterized by some of the tallest buildings in the world. Buildings are commonly ranked in four categories including the height of the structural top, highest floor in use, height to the rooftop, and height to the top of any part of the building. 1. Princess Tower
The Princess Tower is a 1,356-foot residential building located in the Marina District of Dubai. The 107-story building, which includes six basement floors, is the second tallest building in Dubai and the 20th in the world. It was once the tallest residential building in the world between 2012 and 2015. Princess Tower comprises of 763 units, 8 retail units, and 957-car parking spaces spread over six floors. Its construction began in 2006 and was completed in September 2012.
2. 23 Marina
23 Marina is a 1,289-foot residential skyscraper located in the city of Dubai. The 88-storey building remained the tallest residential building in the world until 2012 when the nearby Prince Tower was completed. 23 Marina has 57 swimming pools while each of the duplexes in the tower is furnished with its own elevator. The building has four floors below the ground and covers a floor area of 1.5 million square feet. It has 283 units and 62 elevators serving all the units. The construction work began in 2006 and was completed in 2012 with the building currently owned by Hircon International.
3. Elite Residence
Elite Residence is located in Dubai's Marina District, overlooking Palm Jumeirah. It stands at 1,248 feet tall and has 91 floors including the floors underground. 76-floors house the building’s 695 apartments while the rest of the floors are used for amenities such as car parking, swimming pools, health clubs, and business centers. When completed in 2012, Elite Residence was the third largest residential building in the world. However, it is currently the fourth tallest after the completion of New York’s 432 Park Avenue.
4. The Marina Torch
The Marina Torch or just The Torch is a damaged residential skyscraper located in Dubai Marina. It became the world’s tallest building in 2011 but eventually lost the title to Prince Tower and 23 Marina. It is 1,105 feet tall and has 82 floors, including three floors below the ground. It has over 600 apartment units. The Marina Torch was damaged by a fire which broke out on February 21, 2015, in one of the balconies making 101 apartments uninhabitable. It underwent renovation from May 2015 until October 2016 when it was officially reopened.
5. HHHR Tower
HHHR Tower, or The Blue Tower, is a 1,040-foot tall tower located on Sheikh Zayed Road. The construction of the residential tower began in 2006 and it was completed in 2010. The 72-storey skyscraper is mainly residential but it is also used for commercial purposes. It comprises of 454 apartments and it is the second tallest residential building in Dubai and the fourth tallest in the world.
