Stillwater is one of the best destinations in Minnesota to experience fall in 2024. Located on the banks of the St. Croix River just outside of Minneapolis, the town’s charming downtown area becomes even more inviting with autumn colors blanketing the nearby bluffs overlooking the area. Its iconic and historic brick buildings house many of Stillwater's local businesses and amenities, making the town's core the ideal Fall stroll. You should also explore the historic Lift Bridge and maybe even enjoy a paddleboat ride on the river, starting from Stillwater River Boats. Fall events in town, like Stillwater Harvest Fest, bring the community together for pumpkin weigh-offs, local food, and live music.

The Root River State Trail is a must-see, perfect for biking or hiking through the colorful landscape. The river itself offers opportunities for canoeing and fishing, providing a peaceful way to take in the fall scenery. Downtown Lanesboro is equally charming, with historic buildings, art galleries, and a nice selection of restaurants (most of which are located on the central Parkway Ave North). You can visit the Commonweal Theatre for local performances or visit a nearby Amish farmers market for handmade goods.

Grand Marais

Grand Marais sits on the rugged shores of Lake Superior. This town is widely sought after for its incredible lakeside views and the remote wilderness surrounding it. One of the highlights is the nearby Gunflint Trail, a scenic 57-mile auto route that winds through the Superior National Forest, taking its travelers past numerous lakes and other gorgeous natural landmarks. Cascade River State Park and Judge C.R. Magney State Park, both known for their waterfalls and rivers, are also well worth seeing during your stay.

Downtown Red Wing is known for the iconic Red Wing Shoe Company Museum, showcasing the town’s famous shoemaking heritage, along with many other fun and interesting amenities.
