Seaside is located on Scenic Highway 30A midway between Destin and Panama City Beach is a lovely beach town that serves as a shining example of the New Urbanism movement. One of the first master-planned communities in the Sunshine State, it was founded in 1981 and is famous for its pastel-colored cottages, white picket fences, and wonderfully walkable layout, all the result of an innovative urban design which has now influenced town planning worldwide.

Top attractions include the Seaside Amphitheater which has an impressive line-up of concerts and events lined up for 2024, as well as the fun-to-stroll and town center with its friendly shops, galleries, and eateries. Nearby Seagrove Beach offers plenty of sand and crystal-clear waters to get acquainted with, too.

Destin

Destin is well-known among fans of fishing, and has earned the nickname as the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village." Situated on the western edge of the Emerald Coast near Fort Walton Beach, Destin is especially popular for its deep-sea fishing industry, with charters departing constantly from harbor to some of the deepest parts of the Gulf of Mexico where vast stocks of fish are waiting to be caught.

As a major tourism hub on the Emerald Coast, there are plenty of other fun things to do in Destin, too. Take a stroll along the always-interesting Destin Harbor Boardwalk for a spot of people gazing, and try some of the wet rides at Big Kahuna's Water and Adventure Park when it’s time to cool down. The nearby Henderson Beach State Park offers a natural escape with its hiking trails and beachfront, and in October 202,4 the town sees the return of the annual Destin Seafood Festival, a celebration of the town's culinary heritage and that oh-so-important fishing culture.

Grayton Beach

Mid way between Destin and Panama City Beach along the attractive Scenic Highway 30A, Grayton Beach is well-known for its eclectic, artsy vibe and its successful preservation efforts. Pay a visit and you’ll find a lovely community that simply exudes an old Florida charm that’s something of a rarity these days. Highlights include Grayton Beach State Park with its superlative beach experiences, including sugar-white sands and unique coastal dune lakes.

The town itself is worth a wander and is home to unique shops, art galleries, and the famous Red Bar, a local institution that’s been drawing crowds for its live music and beach vibe since the 1970s. More than 50 years later, 2024 is a great year to pop in and enjoy one of the best (and friendliest) beach bars in the Emerald Coast.

Set overlooking the Gulf of Mexico just 25 minutes east of Seaside along Scenic Highway 30A, Rosemary Beach is another Emerald Coast master-planned small town that’s worth visiting for its pedestrian-friendly design. A meander through this village-like community reveals an appealing blend of West Indies, Dutch, and Southern influences in the designs of the homes and businesses here. Visitors can explore the town center, which features charming boutiques, restaurants, and green spaces, as well as nearby beaches which provide ample opportunities for sunbathing, swimming, and watersports like paddleboarding and jet skiing.

A must-do event for grape lovers in 2024 is to participate in the annual Rosemary Beach Uncorked Wine Festival. Held in November, this popular food and drink event involves friendly local vendors, stores, and restaurants and is a delightful way to broaden your wine knowledge. Also, worth a visit in 2024 is the 30A Farmers' Market held here each Sunday.

Fort Walton Beach

Fort Walton Beach, situated between Pensacola and Destin, is a great spot for a beach getaway in 2024. History buffs love this place, with historical sites such as the Indian Temple Mound Museum being especially popular. The focus here is a large platform mound constructed by the ancient Pensacola culture in 850 AD along with a large collection of artifacts and exhibits of this period in Native American history. The nearby Air Force Armament Museum is also fun to visit and features numerous vintage aircraft, including both jets and prop jobs.

Here with kids? Then a visit to the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park is a must-see for its dolphin encounters and exhibits of sharks and sting rays. And for beaches, head to Okaloosa Island for some of the best in the Emerald Coast area. And if visiting Fort Walton Beach in 2024, the Heritage Park & Cultural Center is spread across 127 acres and chock full of fun, including a heritage train ride, a historic schoolhouse and post office, plus Civil War era exhibits (expect to spend around four hours here minimum).

Navarre

Located on Santa Rosa Island, Navarre is a perfect getaway for those who like things on the quieter side of the beach-going spectrum. Top attractions include Navarre Beach Marine Park with its exciting snorkeling and diving experiences, as well as interesting educational exhibits about local marine life. Bring a rod and bait and head out along the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, the longest in Florida. In addition to its excellent fishing opportunities, non-fishers will enjoy the views, especially at sunset.

Another fun thing to do in this corner of the Emerald Coast is to pay a visit to the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center with its many educational opportunities regarding these fascinating creatures.
