Horse Cave

The community of Horse Cave, located 20 miles east of Mammoth Cave National Park, is home to the “Kentucky Down Under” Zoo and Dutch Country Safari Park, making it an ideal destination for the entire family. While the zoo has a variety of awesome attractions, like Mammoth Onyx Cave, first discovered in the late 18th century and opened in 1922 for public tours, the safari park offers everything from wagon and train rides to a fun petting zoo that is perfect for the kids. Hidden River Cave is also a great attraction, possessing the longest underground swinging bridge in the world. There are also several comfortable lodging choices in Horse Cave, including Horse Cave Campground, located on Flint Ridge Road, less than ten miles from Mammoth Cave.

Newport

Located across the border from Cincinnati, Newport is a true haven of natural, historic, and cultural attributes, including the iconic Purple People Bridge and Newport Aquarium. The latter offers a variety of nature-oriented attractions, like the Coral Reef Tunnel, Shipwreck: Realm of the Eels, and Shark Bridge, while the Purple People Bridge, also called the Newport Southbank Bridge, is a half-mile-long, pedestrian-only bridge that offers some stunning scenic views of the mighty Ohio River. Winchester, located 20 miles east of Lexington, is home to many great venues, including the Bluegrass Heritage Museum and the Winchester Cemetery, the final resting place of many Union Soldiers who died during the Civil War. Other historic attributes near the town of Winchester include the Civil War Fort at Boonesboro, which is situated around eight miles southwest of downtown. Yet, this “Bluegrass State” town is near a variety of natural wonders as well. The Red River Gorge Geological Area and Lower Howard’s Creek Nature & Heritage Park are both within 30 minutes of the town. Paducah

From the National Quilt Museum to the famous Floodwall Murals to the Paducah Riverwalk, the quaint town of Paducah is an oasis of historic and natural attractions guaranteed to encourage visitors to return over and over.
