Torch Lake Sandbar

Torch Lake is a lake in the US state of Michigan. The lake itself measures 31 kilometers and is Michigan’s longest inland lake. The lake is best known for its sandbar, at clear, turquoise waters that resemble a tropical paradise. It has become a popular destination for tourists and Michigan locals throughout the summer months. The lake was even once named by National Geographic as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world due to its clean clear waters.

The sandbar is located roughly a few hundred meters from the shore, and can therefore only be accessed by water. It is towards the southern edge of the lake, oin the area where Torch Lake meets Torch River.

The sandbar is a naturally occurring phenomenon which occurs due to the build up of sand from the inflowing river. The sand was pushed up towards the southern edge of the lake, and formed a sand bar which has since become a popular destination for visitors, vacationers, and recreation within the lake. The sandy ridge measures roughly 3.2 kilometers, though it is not a straight line. It can be accessed by motor boat, kayak or canoe, or even by swimming from the shore. The sandbar has become a popular meeting area, and place for people to park their boats for a dip, have picnics, relax, or congregate for parties.

Torch Lake Sandbar Parties

Parties on the sandbar are what the area has become increasingly well known for. Especially on holidays like the fourth of July, people meet here to host and partake in what have been some raucous and adventurous parties. Drinking, swimming, music and food are all part of these events, and over the years their popularity has increased, leading to an increase in p;olice monitoring. Unfortunately, the sandbar is also well known for hosting the Fourth of July Sandbar party in 2020, despite covid-19 and the potential risks. The lake was later traced back as a hotspot and the source of a coronavirus outbreak.
